About Competition

As part of our $50 million investment in Horizon Worlds creators, we're excited to kick-off this $1M competition to accelerate and reward innovative mobile world development.

Win Big: Starting today, March 11 through May 8, this competition themed "Mobile Genre Showdown," will reward 30 talented creators with up to $1 million in prizes for building innovative mobile experiences in Meta Horizon Worlds. The top winner per genre will be awarded $100,000 each, and the remaining $500,000 will be distributed to 25 additional winners across multiple categories.

Build for a Growing Audience: Meta Horizon Worlds has a growing user base, and by participating in this competition, you'll have the chance to showcase your work to a wider audience. Beyond the competition, you will also have access to a variety of creator bonuses to continue to improve your worlds and your development as a creator.

Learn and Grow: By joining the MHCP, you'll access revamped educational resources and guides to unlock the full potential of the Meta Horizon Worlds desktop editor to deliver maximum fidelity and complexity.

Who Can Participate

The Meta Horizon Creator Competition IS open to:

  • Individuals who are at least eighteen (18) years of age and the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence,

  • Residents of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada (excluding Quebec), Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, or the United States (including D.C. and excluding the U.S. Territories American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands),

  • Are members of the Meta Horizon Creator Program (MHCP). If not a member, apply here. We have created an expedited process to review your application so you can participate in the competition. Visit the MHCP FAQ here.

How To Enter
  1. Join MHCP: Click here to enroll. For more details or questions, visit the FAQ page. If you are already a member? Skip to What To Build section.
  2. Expedited Onboarding into MHCP. After you've enrolled, you'll receive an email outlining the next steps to sign the MHCP program terms and join the Meta Horizon Creator Forum, the competition hub. 
  3. Congratulations! You're in the competition and will have access to technical office hours, exclusive educational content, and a vibrant creator community to support you.

What To Build 

Design and build a NEW innovative world for Meta Horizon that works seamlessly on mobile devices. Your world can be designed for solo or group play and must fall under any of the following genres:

  • Simulation
  • Party Game
  • Roleplay
  • Adventure
  • Obby / Platformer

Entrants can submit world to the Contest by:
  1. Publish your world: Publish your mobile-focused world in Meta Horizon worlds. Ensure it’s publicly accessible.
  2. Register on Devpost: From March 11, 2025 when submission opens, go to the Devpost competition page. Click on “Join hackathon”. If you don't have a Devpost account or aren’t signed in, you'll need to create one for free or log in to access the submission page.
  3. Submit Your World: Make sure to complete all required fields on the "Start project" page during the competition submission window and adhere to the specified requirements.

 

Submission Requirements on Devpost

Please note that once the competition deadline has passed, do not make any modifications to your world. Worlds that are modified after the submission deadline may be disqualified.

Submissions on Devpost must include the following information:

  • Name of the world
  • Meta Horizon Worlds username of world owner
    • This person will be the main point of contact for the submission. Their contact information will be shared with the payment vendor for prize-giving purposes.
  • Meta Horizon Worlds usernames of teammate(s), if applicable.
  • What genre are you primarily submitting your worlds into for judging?
    • Simulation
    • Party Game
    • Roleplay
    • Adventure
    • Obby / Platformer
  • Recommended number of players required at a time for your world
    • 1-2 players
    • 3+ players 
  • Accompanying documentation (Please keep each section to 1-2 paragraphs max):
    • Inspiration: What inspired you to create this world? What other worlds or media influenced your creative direction?
    • How we built it: What were the key tools and processes you used to create the world? If this is a team world, who contributed and how did they contribute?
    • Challenges: What were the biggest difficulties you encountered, and how did you overcome or work around them?
    • Accomplishments: Which parts of your world, or your building process, are you most proud of?
    • Next steps: How are you going to keep improving the world? What would you like to add if you have more time?
  • 1x 3 mins demo of the world:
    • Should not exceed 3 minutes.
    • Include footage that shows the experience as viewed on a Mobile device 
    • Must be uploaded to and made publicly visible on YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook Video, or Youku, and a link to the video must be provided on the submission form on the Competition website.
    • Must not include third-party trademarks, or copyrighted music or other material unless the Entrant has permission to use such material.

 

Judging Process

To determine winners in the competition, we have selected a panel of judges from within Meta who are experts on Meta Horizon. There will be a pre-screen, judging phase one and two, then the final judging panel.
